
Just stop and think about it. The Almighty. The Creator. The God who breathes life into us and everything. The God who preserves this earth amongst all the chaos. That God knows you and me by name (Isaiah 43:1). That God knows the number of hairs on our head (Luke 12:7). That God knit you and me together and knows us personally (Psalm 139). This God chose to love you and love me beyond measure.
It’s hard for us to imagine something that is beyond measure. We measure everything! The square feet of our house, the number of acres we own, the distance I can drive on my tank of gas, how much time I have left until I clock out of work, my bank account, my years on earth, how long I have been married, the height of the tallest mountain, the depth of the deepest ocean… everything seems to be measured. But the love of God cannot be. Try to wrap your mind around that! This love of God is measureless and infinite. It will never end, no matter what!
BLESSED BEYOND MEASURE is our school year theme based on Ephesians 3:16-19
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Let’s unpack this in our school setting:
- That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith – Daily, at a place called school, Christ dwells in our hearts. Through the power of His Word, shared by trained teachers, our students’ faith grows. As he dwells in our hearts, we get to make decisions based on his good and pleasing will.
- Being rooted and established in love…together with all the Lord’s holy people – Our students and staff have roots going to the same source, God’s measureless love for us. The unity and the message are clear at MLHS. We can always go back to the source of our greatest blessing to start and end every conversation on our campus. There is no greater blessing in our school than the fact that God’s Word is our source of every decision and every conversation. The same conversations happening at our families’ homes are the same conversations happening between students and teachers every day. What a blessing!
- to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love surpasses knowledge. As we grow through daily chapel, daily Word of God classes, and really all the classes as we integrate our Christ-Centered worldview throughout the curriculum, we are trying to grasp just how great God’s love for us is. When we find it hard to grasp, we look at the cross. Because it is at the cross that God showed his full love for this world, for you, and for me. He did not even spare his only son to win us back to him. We are his because of this, and that makes all the difference!
- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. – The goal. Filled to the measure of all the fullness of God! Let Christ live in us and through us. Sounds like our mission statement – Christ-Centered Learning for Christ-Centered Living.
Can you see now why this theme was chosen? BLESSED BEYOND MEASURE. Our Lutheran schools are places where blessing upon blessing is evident. May God continue to use our schools and their teachers working side by side with parents to raise students who never take for granted how wide and long and high and deep is the love of God for them. May they always remember that they are truly blessed beyond measure!
