* If you chose not to give permission for your student’s information to be on materials, we will not publish your student’s name or information on the sports rosters. His / her face will be blocked off the team photo, or the photo will not be used. As a general rule, team photos without names will be published on the website.
Occasionally, a student’s name corresponds with her / his photo when it is necessary, for example, when a student achieves an award or some other notoriety. We do not publish student addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, or other contact information. Please be assured that consideration for your student’s welfare and security will be handled with care and discretion. Please contact the school office with questions, or to view examples of past publications.
Michigan Lutheran High School Computer & Internet Acceptable Use Policy
Michigan Lutheran High School provides access to technology to enhance classroom teaching and learning. All use of technology must be consistent with this purpose and be in accordance with this policy and/or any other policies established by the faculty and MLHS Board of Regents. Technology as defined in this policy includes but is not limited to the use of computers and the school network, the Internet, video monitors and video tape players. In addition, all users must be aware that by traversing another network via the Internet that they may be subject to the guidelines and policies of that network.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that those using the technology provided by Michigan Lutheran High School will do so in accordance with the mission and educational goals of MLHS.
The Internet links computer networks around the world and provides access to a wide variety of computer and information resources. However, it is important for the users to recognize that the Internet also contains sites that have materials that are objectionable, adult-oriented or otherwise inappropriate. All users, parents, and guardians are advised that communications on the Internet cannot be completely monitored by MLHS. By participating in the use of the Internet, students may gain access to information and communications which they or their parents/guardians may find inappropriate, offensive, or controversial. While MLHS will do everything in its power to insure that this does not happen, parents/guardians need to be aware of this risk when they allow their students to participate in the use of the Internet. The user is responsible for his/her own actions while accessing material on the Internet, and may not access, download, or print from inappropriate sites.
Access to technology at Michigan Lutheran High School is a privilege, not a right, which requires that each user adhere to the responsibility of acceptable use. It is also understood that since Michigan Lutheran provides access to the Internet that there shall be no access of commercial online services, chat rooms, or e-mail (during the school day) without the expressed authorization of an authorized school official.
Violation of these policies, abuse of equipment, and/or illegal conduct such as, but not limited to, any form of vandalism to equipment or information including the uploading or creation of computer viruses, will result in disciplinary action including possible expulsion from school, suspension or revocation of access privileges, and/or appropriate legal action.
Transmission of material in violation of local, state, or federal regulation is prohibited. This prohibition extends to, but is not limited to: copyrighted material; threatening, obscene, or any unlawful material, and material protected by trade secret. Use of MLHS technology for commercial activities, product advertisement, political lobbying, or any illegal activities is prohibited.
Guidelines for Acceptable Use:
• Do not use offensive or inappropriate language, or language that would promote violence or hatred, and do not respond to such.
• Do not reveal your or any other personal address, phone number, or credit card information.
• Do not use MLHS technology in such a way as to disrupt use of technology by others or abuse access time.
• Do not harass anyone by sending uninvited communication.
• Do not access, download, upload, or print from unauthorized or inappropriate areas on the network or Internet, and do not change or interfere with information found on the network or Internet.
• Do not misrepresent yourself or your age.
• Do not make unauthorized copies of software or information.
• Do not install software on MLHS computers or change their original configuration without authorization.
• Do not access any technology at Michigan Lutheran High School without a signed Michigan Lutheran High School Technology Use Agreement
Michigan Lutheran High School reserves the right to modify the Acceptable Use Policy at any time. It is the responsibility of the user to check for policy changes. An online version of this policy will be made available to all users via the MLHS website. Teachers and/or administrators will determine what is inappropriate use.
Computer Use – From the Student Handbook
Students are encouraged to make good use of the computer technology available at MLHS. Because of the delicate nature of computers and related equipment, all students are to exercise extreme care when using the computers, disks, CD-ROM’s and printers.
An instructor must supervise all computer use. Computers may be used during a study hall to work on an assignment if a pass has been secured in advance from the instructor of a specific class. Computers may also be used before school from 7:30 to 7:55 a.m. and after school until 3:30 p.m. The use of computers at other times must be arranged with an instructor.
No food or beverages are allowed near or around the computers. The computer printers are to be used for school assignments only and may not be used for personal projects without permission. Students may not bring in their own programs to run on the computers. The library/yearbook computer may be used only by specially designated students or the yearbook staff when working on yearbook projects. Students my not use computers for the playing of audio compact disks. (cf. policy on Walkmans and CD Players)
All students must have a signed copy of the MLHS Computer Use Policy on file. Any abuse, misuse or failure to follow the above guidelines will result in a student forfeiting the privilege of using school computers.
Students are not to send or receive email, post or respond to messages on electronic bulletin boards or blogs, send or receive instant messages, or participate in chat rooms without the expressed consent and supervision of a staff member. (approved BoR July 2006)
Students who use electronic media to bully, threaten, intimidate, or injure the reputation of another will be held accountable under the Christian Speech and Behavior section of this handbook. Students will be held accountable whether this activity occurs on the school grounds, if a written or electronic copy of such is brought on campus, or whether the school becomes aware of such abuse that occurred off-campus. (approved BoR July 2006) This includes the posting of online messages, parodies, photos, and videos of school related events, faculty, or other students, including but not limited to sites such as Youtube, Myspace, Facebook, and the like.
Michigan Lutheran High School Technology Use Agreement
The undersigned acknowledges that he/she has read the Acceptable Use Policy of Michigan Lutheran High School before signing this Technology Use Agreement. The signature(s) at the end of this document is (are) legally binding and indicate(s) the party (parties) who signed has (have) read the terms and conditions of said policy carefully, understand(s) their significance and agree(s) to abide by all provisions of said policy.
As a user, I understand and will abide by the Acceptable Use Policy of Michigan Lutheran High School relating to the use of technology and will abide by the Technology Use Agreement. Michigan Lutheran High School is not liable for lost, damaged or unavailable information due to technical or other difficulties; and is not responsible for what users do or the information they access. I further understand that any violation of the Acceptable Use Policy and/or this Technology Use Agreement may jeopardize my access privileges and understand certain violations may constitute criminal offenses. Should I commit any violation, my access privileges may be suspended or revoked, disciplinary action, including my being dropped from class and possible expulsion may result. In some cases appropriate legal action may be taken against me.
MLHS Chromebook Usage Contract
All students will have the opportunity to borrow a Chromebook through the MLHS technology program and Google Apps for Education. The use of technology to provide educational material is not an entitlement but a privilege. Students are given the opportunity to use these Chromebooks on a room-by-room and day-by-day basis. When abused, privileges will be taken away. When respected, they will benefit the learning environment as a whole.
Students borrowing an MLHS-owned device will sign them out and return them when finished.
Students wanting to use a Chromebook in study hall must have a pass from a classroom teacher.
Once you sign out a device, it is for your use only. Do not share that device with another student.
Responsibility for damage done to a device lies with the person who was at fault. If a device is damaged, it is the responsibility of the student and his or her parent/guardian to arrange for repair or replacement. This includes damage done to someone else’s device.
Students are expected to plug in the Chromebook for charging so that it is ready for the next person’s work without interruption.
Students are allowed to modify the Chrome theme and the background and profile picture of their Chromebook as long as it is in good taste and God-pleasing.
Students borrowing MLHS owned devices may install only free, school-related apps and may use those apps at appropriate times at school.
Some features of the Chromebook will be limited by school staff as needed in order to provide the best and safest learning experience possible.
Any activity on the Chromebook may be monitored in accordance to our technology acceptable use policy by school staff. This includes but is not limited to documents, messaging, and browsing history.
I understand and will abide by the above policy and guidelines. I further understand that any violation may result in the loss of my network and/or Chromebook privileges as well as other disciplinary action.
Understanding Concussions (students and parents)
Michigan Lutheran High School Athletic Training Code
The MLHS athletic program exists as an integral part of the total curriculum. It exists as a tool for Christian education, and as such, the athletic leaders seek to prepare youth for a life of Christian service through the unique lessons that can be learned in athletics. Membership on an ML team is a privilege and carries with it certain responsibilities. Compliance with these rules is a responsibility of the athlete and his/her parents. This training code has been ratified by the MLHS Board of Regents. This code is in effect 12 months a year. Before signing, players and parents are asked to read these rules and consequences carefully and to ask for explanations if any points are not understood. Signatures on this form indicate that player and parents understand the rules, intend to follow them, and are willing to accept the consequences of any infractions.
I. Alcohol/Tobacco
An athlete is expected to abstain from the use of alcohol, tobacco, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes, and other look-a-likes. A first offense will result in a suspension of three (3) competition dates. A second offense will result in a suspension of six (6) competition dates. A third offense will result in a suspension from sports for one (1) calendar year.
Infractions are cumulative over four years.
II. Drugs/ Marijuana
An athlete is expected to abstain from the use of marijuana and non prescribed drugs. An athlete is expected to properly use all over-the-counter chemicals. A first offense will result in a suspension of six (6) competition dates. A second offense will result in a suspension of twelve (12) competition dates. A third offense will result in a suspension from sports for one (1) calendar year. Infractions are cumulative over four years.
III. Suspensions
If a suspension can not be completed in one season, the suspension will carry over to the next season in which the athlete participates. A suspension normally means that an athlete continues to practice with the team, attends all team functions, and is on the bench inuring games in street clothes.The athlete shows a repentant attitude during the suspension. An athlete forfeits all team awards and the athletic letter with any violation of I. or II.
IV. Practices and Game Excuses
Athletes are expected to be at all practices and games. Permission to be excused or to be late should be obtained from the coach beforehand. Some examples of excused absences or tardies are the following: an ML school related event, driver’s test, college visits, doctor appointment, a school office excuse for illness. The coach should be consulted in the case of injury or minor illness. Vacations and hunting trips are generally unexcused unless they are family outings. Absences and tardies due to non-MLHS activities are generally unexcused.
An athlete will lose playing time because of an unexcused absence from a practice or game. The coach will determine the validity of the excuse. Excuses should always be obtained from the coach beforehand. An unexcused absence from a game will result in a one game suspension.
V. Performance Readiness
All athletes are expected to be ready to compete at all practices and games at a high level. Athletes are expected to arrive at practices and games free from injuries and with the ability to compete with energy and enthusiasm.
VI. Dual Sport Participation
Athletes may compete in two MLHS sports at the same time. A “dual sports participation” form must be completed and turned in before the athlete competes in a contest. Athletes may participate in non-school sports and activities at the discretion of their parents. ML practices and games will take priority over non-ML sports and activities. Athletes may NOT participate in a non-school sport at the same time that they are participating in the same ML sport.
VII. Parties
When an athlete is present at a party where the training code is being broken, the athlete’s reputation suffers and the team’s reputation suffers. Because of this, the athlete’s presence at a party where the training code is being broken is considered a violation. An athlete should be careful which parties he or she attends. When an athlete attends a party, it is his or her responsibility to know if the training code is being broken or not. If there is a problem, or if there is any doubt, the athlete should leave immediately.
VIII. Loyalty
Athletes are to exhibit loyalty to their school, teammates and coaches. Criticism in public or on social media is not acceptable.
IX. Sportsmanship
Sportsmanship is a great way to let our light shine. Michigan Lutheran High School is renowned as a great example of good sportsmanship. Poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. As an example to their son or daughter, we expect parents to cheer for ML teams in a positive fashion. Cheering against opponents or loudly disagreeing with officials or coaches should not happen. All those connected with the game should be treated with courtesy. Adults are asked to gently correct others who are exhibiting poor sportsmanship. Booing should never happen.
X. Concerns and Complaints
Concerns and complaints should be directed to the coach first and handled in the light of Scripture and in accordance with MLHS policy as outlined in the student handbook. The correct order of due process is the following:
A sit down private conference with the coach.
If not resolved, a sit down conference with the Athletic Director and the coach.
If not resolved, a sit down conference with the Principal, Athletic Director, and the coach.
If not resolved, the Administrative Council will direct the procedure for a hearing before the Board of Regents. Steps in the process should not be skipped.
